FAIRBRIDGE WA, with support from Dreamfit, Rio Tinto, Lotterywest and the University of Western Australia recently launched what is believed to be Australia’s only purpose-built abseiling tower for people in wheelchairs.
Dreamfit CEO Darren Loman said it was great to see the 15-metre tower reach practical completion and be used for the first time.
“For most people in wheelchairs, the edge of the footpath defines where they can go; the creation of this tower has pushed boundaries and opened up a new activity and experience, it is a great feeling to be a part of it,” he said.
Fairbridge chief executive Mark Anderson said the tower’s opening was a significant milestone for all involved and would benefit more than 30 disability groups that accessed Fairbridge each year for recreational activities.
