A new guide for developing renewable energy projects in Western Australia was launched by the state government today.

Energy minister Francis Logan said the Renewable Energy Handbook was part of the State Government's commitment to assisting the development of viable, renewable energy sources.

"We are facing a future in which renewable energy will need to play a significant role," Mr Logan said.

"WA is blessed with outstanding renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, biomass and wave energy.

"We need to take advantage of these resources and diversify our energy supplies by developing a solid, prosperous and profitable renewable energy industry."

The handbook contains information on the variety of renewable energy opportunities available in WA, as well as information on the various approvals needed for different projects.

Mr Logan said it was an opportune time to develop the renewable energy industry in this State.

"The handbook is not only a tool for anyone in the renewable energy industry, it is also a useful resource for people wanting to know more about renewable energy projects in WA," he said.

"The Carpenter Government is committed to delivering environmental, social and economic benefits to the community by accelerating the transition to a more sustainable energy system."
