The state Governor has today approved the appointment of former Northern Territory bureaucrat Richard Sellers to the role of Director General at the Department of Mines and Petroleum.
Mr Sellers takes over from Tim Griffin, who has held an acting position since the department was created from restructuring of the Department of Industry and Resources (DoIR).
Anne Nolan is the director general at the Department of State Development, the other department created from DoIR.

The Public Sector Commissioner, Mr Mal Wauchope, today announced that the Governor has approved the appointment of Mr Richard Sellers to the position of Director General, Department of Mines and Petroleum in accordance with section 45(1) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994. The appointment of Mr Sellers will take effect on and from 2 June 2009 for a term of five (5) years.
The position was advertised nationally.
Mr Sellers is currently the Executive Director, Minerals and Energy at the Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Mines in the Northern Territory. Prior to this role Mr Sellers was the Executive Director, Fisheries Group at the Department of Business, Industry and Resource Development.
Mr Sellers holds a Bachelor of Applied Science Biology from the former Western Australian Institute of Technology, a Graduate Diploma in Education from Curtin University and a Master of Public Policy and Management from Monash University.
