CURTIN University has celebrated the opening of a $9 million facility on its Bentley campus dedicated to the teaching of occupational therapy and social work.
The building was designed by The Buchan Group and built by Wangara-based National Projects WA.
Head of Curtin’s School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work, Lorna Rosenwax, said the facilities were among some of the best in the world.
“These innovative facilities have been designed following extensive research, consultation and planning with staff, students and clinicians, and it will be a cutting-edge teaching and learning space,” she said.
The innovative teaching space includes state-of-the-art laboratories, a 100-seat lecture theatre and three home ‘sets’, giving students the opportunity to learn how to teach patients to cope with rehab within their own homes.
Curtin pro vice-chancellor of health sciences, Jill Downie, said the development would enhance the university’s reputation in the healthcare education arena.
“We have invested in the latest technology across all areas that will enable students to practise patient care scenarios in realistic inter-professional settings,” she said.
