The Australian Property Institute (WA) is holding a forum to discuss the issue of native title, February 23 at the Parmelia Hilton. At present Australia has 550 native title claims pending. The outcomes of these claims will affect a wide range of property professionals and therefore the following topics will be discussed: the government’s role in native title legislation; state legislation including the Land Administration Act, Land Heritage Act and Native Title Act; the ‘value’ of native title as it relates to the private sector, mining companies and pastoral leases; and what the recently upheld claim really means to the parties involved and how this affect WA. Speakers include: Glen Kelly – CEO, South West Land and Sea Council (Noongar Community); Kate Morton – manager native title unit, State Land Services; Graeme Addicott – principal valuer, Australian Valuation Office and advisor to the prime minister on native title; and Marshal McKenna – native title consultant solicitor.
