LOCATION-BASED technology provider NGIS Australia has become a regional partner to global internet giant Google, which is turning to the business market to sell its products, including mapping.
Managing director of Perth-based NGIS, Paul Farrell, said the move was significant because it gave his company the ability to tap into Google’s brand and technology, which had a great deal familiarity in the marketplace due to its existing retail consumer reach through products like Google Earth.
Mr Farrell said Google Enterprise, its business-to-business division, was not previously represented here on the ground. NGIS will be Enterprise Partner for Google Geo in Australia and Asia Pacific.
He said the Google partnership was largely due to NGIS’ specialist capabilities in the support and development of leading spatial technology. NGIS will retain its own geographic and spatial product range.
Mr Farrell, a 2002 40under40 winner, said NGIS was starting to build its capability in this area and was looking internationally to recruit appropriate staff.
