The Australian Transport Council has appointed Greg Martin as chairman of the National Transport Commission (NTC). Mr Martin became deputy chairman in April 2008 and acting chairman last July. He has more than 40 years’ experience in the areas of transport and infrastructure planning, research and operations. The commission is responsible for developing and maintaining nationally consistent regulatory and operational reform relating to road, rail and intermodal transport. Mr Martin is currently a professor of planning and transport studies at Curtin University of Technology and executive director of the Planning and Transport Research Centre of Western Australia. Past appointments include director general, Department for Planning and Infrastructure (WA) in 2002, and commissioner of Main Roads Western Australia in 1999.
