Music, mines and messages are winners

A RECORD producer, an Internet maximiser and a mining software producer are three of the winners in the inaugural Asia Pacific Information Technology and Telecommunication awards.

Business News was host sponsor of the awards.

Paul Miles, executive producer of the Kickstart My Heart project won the Arts, Media and Entertainment category.

Mr Miles is producing a tribute CD to US hard rock band Motley Crue. Proceeds from CD sales will go to children’s cancer research.

Production of the CD was managed online with the involvement of international bands and Pulse Records in Chicago.

Harvest Road won the commerce and business section of the awards. The company helps its clients harness the enormous power of the world wide web.

It offers businesses the ability to professionally create and publish information via the web – however and whenever they choose.

Combinatorics won the mining section of the awards. The WA company provides optimisation software and solutions to the resources sector.

It won the award for its MineMAX software that allows mining engineers to manage mines on a day-to-day basis and also plan for the future of the site.

The Mid West SCADA project for the Water Corporation of WA, IONA Technologies and the Cooperative Research Centre for Broadbrand telecommunications all received high commendations.

The SCADA project used digital radio technology to increase the reliability of the water distribution system.

IONA Technologies developed messaging software for handling transmission of multiple-use data.

The Cooperative Research Centre created a system for computerised breast measurement.

The system is capable of providing an accurate measurement of of volumes in solid objects and is currently being used for studying the human lactation process.
