Professor Andris Stelbovics, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research at Murdoch University, has been appointed Executive Dean of the Division of Science and Engineering at Curtin University of Technology.
Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket said she was delighted to have attracted an academic of Professor Stelbovics' standing to the University to lead one of our most important and strategic areas.
"Andris Stelbovics is an internationally recognised researcher, with an outstanding record in publications and a proven ability to consistently win research grants.
"I am sure he will be a great asset to Curtin."
Professor Stelbovics' academic background is in theoretical physics with a special interest in scattering theory and the modelling of atomic collisions. In 1997 he was awarded the Australian Institute of Physics' Boas Medal, Australia's premier annual award for physics research. The Medal was awarded jointly with Professor Igor Bray.
He joined Murdoch in 1984 as a lecturer and during his career with that University also worked as head of department, head of discipline and as Joint Director of the Centre for Atomic, Molecular and Surface Physics. In 2003 he was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research.
Professor Hacket said Professor Stelbovics would bring many attributes to his new role at Curtin.
"In addition to his outstanding academic record Professor Stelbovics has extensive experience in research partnerships involving both industry and the public sector, and a clear and strategic grasp of the issues facing Australian universities.
"His experience is highly relevant to Curtin and we look forward to welcoming him to the University. I am delighted we have been able to attract Professor Stelbovics to join my team"
