TSUNAMI SUSHI BAR is one of Perth’s most innovative Japanese restaurants.

Menu highlights include ika sumi (Teppan grilled calamari on top of squid ink noodles cooked with squid ink, garlic and chilli and garnished with coriander), and the char-grilled Tasmanian salmon (girded with a sash of green tea noodles and served with sweet potato mash and zucchini).

The Tsunami Sushi Bar has a good wine list and a relaxing décor.


FRIENDS restaurant in the Hyatt Centre is holding a special event called “Around the World with Riedel” on October 10 at 7pm.

The Riedel glass is one of the most renowned wine glasses in the world and is often referred to as the glass “that turns a sip into a celebration”.

The evening will feature a four-course meal created by head chef Gwenael Lesle and fine wines from around the world.

These include Roederer Champagne from France, Toi Mota Chardonnay, and wines from New Zealand, the US and Australia.

And of course, all wines on the night will be served in a Riedel glass.

The three sisters of Little Black Dress will perform.

At the end of the evening, each guest will receive four matching Riedel glasses.


HARRIET’S Café on James St, Northbridge, boasts a swag of daily specials such as wok, pasta or rissotto of the day.

Vegetarians would enjoy the grilled vegetable stack (char-grilled zucchini, eggplant, tomato, field mushrooms and capsicum on a sweet potato rosti topped with goat’s cheese and mozzarella gratin).

Meat eaters can feast on classics such as the marinated t-bone (served with chef’s potatoes with a mushroom and mustard sauce) and the rack of lamb (served with a rich red wine and rosemary jus).

House specials include portata di misto mare (platter for two with local mussels, prawns, oysters, fried squid, grilled fish and Tasmanian smoked salmon) and the half crayfish grilled (served with a lemon creole butter sauce, mixed vegetables and chef’s potatoes).


“ETHIOPIAN cuisine is characterised by the ritual of breaking injera, the traditional bread, and eating from the same plate, signifying a bond of loyalty and friendship,” says Abyssinian Café owner/chef Hiwot Hai Lu.

“Injera is part of every entrée and is a large, crepe/pancake on which the various stew-like dishes are served,” Ms Hai Lu said.

“The traditional way of eating is with the fingers.”

At the Abyssinian Café in Northbridge, Watt, which is a stew-like dish, comes in beef, lamb, chicken, and vegetables. This dish ranges from hotly spiced (with an Ethiopian red pepper berbere) to very mild.

The more delicately seasoned watts are called alicha and contain no berbere.

Menu highlights include kincha (a spiced couscous), shrimp tibs (shrimp marinated in rosemary and Abyssinian special sauce then pan fried with hot peppers and onions), and buticha (chick pea dip mixed with lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, onions, herbs and lentils).

THE PAGODA Long Bar and Restaurant boasts an impressive wine list with 27 whites, 21 reds and six sparkling wines.

The selection includes wines from Piccadilly Valley, Tuscany (Italy), Chablis (France), Yarra Valley, Great Southern, Adelaide Hills and Eden/Clare Valleys.

The Pagoda Long Bar and Restaurant holds a wine buffet every weekday lunch at $11 per person.

Its regular Sunday roast has become a popular family lunch, featuring three different roast meats, roast vegetables and delights courtesy of the in-house pastry chef.

A la carte menu highlights include Ko-samui chicken, prawn and coconut soup; pistachio-basil crusted chicken salad with pomegranate jus; and char-grilled kangaroo with yabbies, potato rosti and lemon aspen butter.
