Stephen Moir has been appointed as managing director of Small Business Development Corporation, after almost a year at the organisation's helm in an acting capacity.
Mr Moir, whose permanent appointment to the state government agency role was expected, replaces George Etrelezis who suddenly departed in July last year after 21 years with the SBDC, 11 of those as managing director.
Mr Etrelezis departure came soon after disgraced Labor parliamentarian Norm Marlborough took over the Small Business portfolio. Mr Marlborough quit parliament late last year after being embroiled in the scandal surrounding former premier Brian Burke.
The state government agency, the only autonomous small business focused entity of its type in Australia, has also recently found a new chair, with high-profile entrepreneur Patria Jafferies filling a vancancy left by former academic Tim Atterton.
Mr Moir has been a senior executive at the SBDC for many years. In 2004, he also worked as executive officer to the Rottnest Island Taskforce, completing a comprehensive review into the commercial operations of the island.
The SBDC plays a role in assisting small business around the state. It also assists business migrants seeking to locate in the state.
