Mining innovation hub for Kalgoorlie

A cooperative research centre focused on minerals extraction has teamed up with mining industry groups and training providers to announce plans for an innovation hub based in Kalgoorlie.

The initiative has been led by the Brisbane-based Cooperative Research Centre for Optimising Resource Extraction.

The Kalgoorlie hub will initially operate as a node of the CRC, which will provide close oversight and an existing governance structure while allowing time for the development of a long-term operating entity.

Kalgoorlie has always been a place for breeding innovation. During the nickel boom there was a great concentration of mining professionals here. We are in the middle of the Yilgarn Craton and will always be here. The shame of it is that the Federal and State Governments have not ran with the idea of supporting mining innovation. (Although the CSRIO has done a great job lately). Most Countries would love to have our situation, and would have made the most of it.
