Portions of Bayswater and Forrestfield have been defined as Metronet precincts, with state government agency DevelopmentWA to guide future development in the areas.

The areas surround the Bayswater train station and the future Forrestfield train station, with the Metronet East Redevelopment Scheme to guide development of both precincts.

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said the scheme would be in effect by the end of the year, with DevelopmentWA to assume planning authority for the precincts.

“Metronet is creating more than just new train stations; it’s also creating well-connected, accessible community hubs which will service the needs of locals and visitors," she said.

"We recognise certain station precincts have the potential to become major activity centres. We are putting the necessary planning frameworks in place to unlock that potential and encourage investment in new housing, services and jobs.”

Ms Saffioti said bringing the precincts under the control of DevelopmentWA would act as a catalyst to attract private investment.

"The formation of the new Metronet East Bayswater and Forrestfield project areas provides a level of certainty for local residents, businesses and landowners about what they may be able to do on their land in the future,” she said.

"The revitalisation of the Bayswater and Forrestfield station precincts will ensure the train station upgrades and future development of the surrounding areas are successfully integrated."
