The WA Ballet is one organisation set to benefit from a $7 million Lotterywest grant awarded to the City of Bayswater today.
The grant will fund the development of new community facilities at the Maylands Multipurpose Centre and the relocation of the state's premier dance organisation.
"The entire community will benefit from this grant with the new centre to include a library, child health clinic, cafe and outdoor function room," Mr Barnett said.
"This support from the State Government will also allow the City of Bayswater to reallocate funding to purchase the Senses Building, which will become home to the WA Ballet Company.
"The West Australian Ballet received $2 million in the 2010-11 State Budget to relocate to the Senses Building. I am delighted that, as a result of the funding announced today, that move can happen sooner.
"This means our talented youngsters will no longer have to go to Melbourne or further afield for training and rehearsals."
The Premier said the Maylands Multipurpose Centre would replace a number of ageing community facilities and be built with energy-saving features such as daylight harvesting and bipolar light switches.
"I am delighted that Lotterywest, the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Commonwealth Government Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program are collectively providing significant support for this initiative," he said.
"It is important that we create spaces where families and friends can connect with the broader community."
The Multipurpose Centre is expected to be completed in March 2011.
