Western Australia’s biggest motoring retailer, the Automotive Holdings Group has appointed Chris Marwick to the new post of chief operating officer, dealerships.
The appointment follows suggestions that WA-owned AHG is on the brink of launching a $50 million capital raising as part of moves to full public listing, valued at about $180 million.
AHG employs more than 1,600 people and owns and operates 30 automotive franchises in 21 separate dealerships.
Its portfolio also includes the AMCAP Distribution Centre, Welshpool-based KTM Sports-motorcyles (Australian distribution) and Rand Transport.
Mr Marwick, who is presently dealer principal at AHG’s Holden and HSV dealership, City Motors, previously oversaw the Group’s Total Autos in Cannington.
He will be succeeded by Paul Davies, presently dealer principal at North City Holden, Scarborough.
Mr Marwick will report to AHG’s chief executive, Bronte Howson, and will also take over responsibility for management of the group’s vehicle and truck franchise division.
“Chris is a proven performer in dealership management and knows exactly what it takes to be successful in the highly competitive automotive retail sector,” Mr Howson said.
“This is a key role in our organisation as we look forward.
“There are a number of opportunities open to a group of our size and strength.
“Having Chris in this new position significantly broadens the scope and strength of our leadership team.”
AHG outlets include Big Rock Toyota, Southside Mitsubishi, City Motors, North City Holden and Chellingworth Chrysler and Jeep.
The business dates back to the early 1950s with the establishment of City Motors by Syd Wheatley, whose son, Vern, remained associated with the group until last year.
Today, AHG is involved in new and used car and truck sales, servicing and repair of vehicles, warehousing, finance and insurance.
At the same time Vern Wheatley’s partner, Bob Branchi, stood down as group managing director to become chairman.
Mr Branchi’s son Mark, presently dealer principal at Big Rock Toyota, is to move to North City Holden.
