The Friends of Collie Aquarium-run study will benefit from the Federal Government’s Fisheries Action Program with $5,000 from WA’s Fishcare WA program.
The project will examine the impact of acidification of water ponds from mining, salinity and the introduction of non-native fish. It will also seek to create a database to monitor the local marron population.
Fisheries Minister Monty House said he was confident better understanding of the marron populations would strengthen management of this valuable resource.
