Marron environment to be studied

A THREE year study into the impacts of environmental changes on marron will receive $45,180 in government funding.

The Friends of Collie Aquarium-run study will benefit from the Federal Government’s Fisheries Action Program with $5,000 from WA’s Fishcare WA program.

The project will examine the impact of acidification of water ponds from mining, salinity and the introduction of non-native fish. It will also seek to create a database to monitor the local marron population.

Fisheries Minister Monty House said he was confident better understanding of the marron populations would strengthen management of this valuable resource.
