Heritage Minister John Castrilli today announced the appointment of Marion Fulker as the new chairperson for the Heritage Council of Western Australia.
Mrs Fulker has been a highly valued member of the Heritage Council for four years and has extensive experience in heritage, planning, development and business.
The appointment as Heritage Council of WA chairperson is for a four-year term.
Since August 2008, Mrs Fulker has been acting chairperson following the resignation of Gerry Gauntlet who served on the council for 14 years.
Until recently, Mrs Fulker served as chairperson of the council's Development Committee, which oversees the development of all State heritage-listed sites in accordance with the Heritage Act.
"Mrs Fulker's dedication to heritage and her diverse business and development experience makes her an ideal choice for the chairperson's role to take the Heritage Council into the future," Mr Castrilli said.
"In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever to have leadership with a strategic and creative mindset."
Mrs Fulker is the inaugural chief executive officer of the Committee for Perth, a think-tank organisation formed to represent the business community in shaping the future of Perth.
She is a former executive director of the Urban Development Institute of Australia and has been a member of various high profile State Government advisory committees involved in planning, sustainability and community infrastructure.
Mrs Fulker said she was looking forward to the challenges and rewards of her new role.
"Heritage conservation is an important way to preserve the stories of our State and shape the future identity of our communities," Mrs Fulker said.
"I look forward to celebrating and promoting awareness of WA's diverse cultural heritage through this appointment."
