Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan revealed another cost blow-out of $50 million for the Mandurah rail line project this week and pushed its completion date back to July 2007. The project would now cost $1.16 billion, the latest rise a result of the $250 million in extra claims lodged by rail contractors Leighton Kumagai and RailLink. The minister has already revised the budget twice but gave no guarantee against further rising costs. “It’s no one’s fault. It’s not a question of blame, it’s a question of explain,” she said.
