Blake Dawson Waldron will host a one day workshop on August 6 at the Forrest Centre (221 St Georges Terrace Perth) on Managing a Major Safety Incident.
The objectives of the day will be to explore the relevant issues relating to major safety incidents in the workplace, particularly the way organisations respond to and investigate incidents, which can vastly improve the overall outcome.
The objectives of the day include gaining a practical understanding of the relevant laws, applying important legal principles such as legal professional privilege, developing some important skills in relation to report writing, improving interviewing skills should they need to be used for an investigation, and gaining an insight into what a witness may experience in defending actions taken.
The workshop is designed for managers, safety officers and human resource managers and officers, and will be broken down into five sessions.
The first session will give a brief review of the relevant issues and potential consequences, and what to do when an accident occurs.
This session will cover the roles and responsibilities of those involved for the company. The roles of police, inspectors and unions, and their rights will be examined. Also effective models of communication between these groups, and what obligations you might have to these groups.
The second session will cover the investigation process and how to effectively investigate the incident.
In the third section of the day attendees will learn why an investigation report is important and how to write an effective report.
Fourthly, interviewing will be examined, including how to respond to questions and the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of the interviewing process.
The workshop will conclude with being a witness in a prosecution or other type of hearing and what this experience can be like. Registrations can be made with Blake Dawson Waldron for $850, or $220 for the eLearning module.
