Magellan Metals says it has exported its first sealed shipments of lead carbonate through the Fremantle port, with the cargo destined for a Yunnan Metallurgical Group smelter in China.
The miner said the shipment was the first in a series of regular shipments scheduled to exports the 21,000 tonnes of concentrate stockpiled at the Wiluna mine, which will restart operations early next year.
Magellan is owned by Canadian company, Ivernia.
The shipment process is one of the strictest in the world, a method devised by Magellan after the lead contamination saga in Esperance.
The sealed shipments have been already been tested at the Port of Esperance earlier this year, when it was used to remove 8,000 tonnes of lead carbonate that was stockpiled at the port after the outbreak of the saga.
