Expressions of Interest are being sought from private sector developers to join the State Government in the redevelopment of the former Carine TAFE campus.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said strong interest was expected in the 7.92ha site that was within 15km of the Perth CBD and just minutes from the coast.
"The Carine TAFE site offers an exciting opportunity to achieve best practice outcomes using a partnership approach with private developers," Ms MacTiernan said.
"We want to use this project to create a sustainable pedestrian-friendly development capitalising on the surrounding community facilities, services and attractions, including the Hamersley and Lake Karrinyup golf clubs, local schools and parklands.
"There will also be a commitment to housing diversity within the development, including consideration for retirement housing to provide for the ageing population."
A childcare centre located on the site will remain in its current location and will not be part of the redevelopment.
Ms MacTiernan said developing in partnerships enabled LandCorp to extend its focus to include not only the subdivision design, but also building designs to create sustainable communities for generations to come.
"The Carine TAFE redevelopment will be the third former Department of Education and Training site in the metropolitan area redeveloped by LandCorp has developed with the private sector," she said.
"It follows the success of Hollywood High School and the current redevelopment of the former Swanbourne High School site.
"LandCorp will be expanding its partnership program in 2007 with future development opportunities for the former Craigie and Kwinana High School sites and Exmouth Marina Village expected to be announced later in the year."
It is intended the successful proponent for the Carine TAFE site will commence consultation with the community and stakeholders this year to guide the creation of a structure plan.
