FOR the first time Western Australia’s business and community leaders have been recognised for their community spirit by eastern States-based Philanthropy Australia.
The summer edition of the organisation’s journal Australian Philanthropy features some of Western Australia’s top contributors to community causes such as Telethon founder Sir James Cruthers, Wesfarmers managing director Michael Chaney and Child Health Research Institute head Professor Fiona Stanley.
Other’s featured in the magazine include Martin Copley, the WA Association for the Blind, LotteryWest, Stan Perron, Youth Focus, Woodside Energy, the Rio Tinto Future Fund, the Fogarty Foundation, Phil Crabb, Bill Wyllie, Foodbank and Janet Holmes a Court.
"Western Australia, with its history
of mineral wealth, a reputation for creativity and fierce regional pride, certainly has its own philanthropic stories to tell," Philanthropy Australia president Lady Southey said.
"Our hope is that these stories will inspire new ideas and new partnerships in WA."
Philanthropy Australia is the peak
body for grant making trusts and foundation.
According to the organisation, 224 new Private Prescribed Funds were established in Australia in 2003-04 and 16 per cent were located in WA.
