ALBANY’S Lignor Pty Ltd has secured a $3.8 million government grant, its second from the federal government, for its Engineered Strand Lumber project. Lignor managing director Glyn Denison said the grant would be used to conduct further research into refining products with significant overseas and domestic markets. The news came one month after the state government issued a $6.2 million common user infrastructure package for the Mirambeena Timber Processing Precinct near Albany, where Lignor plans to establish its plant. The company had also received a $1.36 million grant from the federal government to conduct a feasibility study into the project in July 2004. Once established, with the project expected to be commissioned during 2008, the plant will create 145 new jobs for the Great Southern.
