Au natural
Not since Priscilla Queen of the Desert has The Note seen a greater show of men in wigs and gowns.
Resplendent in their horse hair finery, Perth’s legal men and women gathered to mark (or mourn) the loss of pate covers and red robes from WA courts in a commemorative photo at the Supreme Court.
Noticeably absent from the spectacle was WA Supreme Court chief justice Wayne Martin who placed the ban on dress-ups in WA courts as of January 1 this year.
Ignorant bliss
The Note’s attention was drawn to a study by the London School of Economics, which revealed that being politically conservative correlated with lower intelligence.
Conservative think tank the Centre for Independent Studies reported that Dr Satoshi Kanazawa, a psychologist at the LSE, believes that more intelligent people were better able to respond to new problems and thus willing to question traditional beliefs and values.
However, there was good news for the more rigidly stanced.
According to another study by the Aarhus School of Business in Denmark, personal happiness is far more widespread among conservatives than among lefties. And the CIS said another study by the University of Florida in the US found that conservatives also have higher incomes.
Dumb but happy, The Note feels relieved.
