The state opposition has joined with southern suburbs rail-line contractor Leighton Kumagai in calls for the maverick Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union to be de-registered.
In the wake of the walk-off the job of over 400 workers on the project last week, Leighton Kumagai have submitted a raft of options to the government to deal with the union's involvement in the strike action.
Specifically it is requesting that the union be de-registered and special legislation be put in place to protect the project from further disruption.
Opposition industrial spokesman Troy Buswell supported the move to de-register the union, but said that legislative action was not likely to work given the union's preparedness to thumb their noses at the law on these matters.
