Leighton Properties has become the first company to receive private development approval for the State Government's Perth City Link project.
Planning minister John Day said approval had been granted to Leighton Properties, on behalf of Seven Entertainment Pty Ltd, for an 11-storey office and retail building to be developed on the former Perth Entertainment Centre site.
“Less than eight months since work commenced, the demolition of the Perth Entertainment Centre has been completed on schedule and the site has been cleared ready for future development,” Mr Day said.
“The State Government has approved the construction of the first of six buildings to be developed as part of the Kings Square precinct on the site.
“This will add approximately 19,000sqm of floor space to Perth’s CBD, including four retail tenancies at ground level, 10 floors of office space and a rooftop terrace.”
Leighton Properties said the East Perth Redevelopment Authority had given their development application a green light as the first commercial building in Kings Square.
The company said the plan had an emphasis on sustainable design, green spaces and retail amenities, and would include 135 bike racks, 29 showers, 94 car bays and 10 motorbike bays.
Leighton Properties senior development manager Michael Barr said the development was a game changer for the city.
“It offers the ability for a tenant to explore new directions in corporate fit outs, which can reflect the working environment of tenants,” he said.
Construction of the project is scheduled to commence mid-2012, with completion expected early 2014.
