WESTERN Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate
has fallen to its lowest rate in more than 25 years, dropping from 5.5 per cent
to 5 per cent between March and April. This was the lowest unemployment rate
since the current monthly data series began in February 1978, and was also the
lowest unemployment rate recorded in any of the States (though not the
Territories) since April 1990. WA's previous unemployment rate low, of 5.3 per
cent, occurred in April and May 1989.
