Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) is holding its annual national congress and business expo, May 21 to 24 at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. The themes for this year’s congress are issues that are confronting, critical and relevant to local government, namely: strategic division, community outcomes and organisational development. The four day event will be officially opened on Sunday May 21 by LGMA president and CEO Noelene Duff, with the annual general meeting kicking off at 5pm. The next three days will be filled with keynote addresses, presentations, workshops and study tours as well as social activities such as river cruises and breakfast/dinner presentations. Keynote speakers for this event include: Professor Greg Craven – executive director of The John Curtin Institute of Public Policy, Curtin University; Dr Fiona Wood AM – 2005 Australian of the Year and head of Royal Perth Hospital’s burns unit; Bob O’Neill – executive director of International City/County Management Association, USA; and Martin Horton – director of services, Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government, UK.
