King receives Ciara Glennon scholarship
FOURTH Year University of Western Australia law student Rachel King has been awarded the Ciara Glennon Memorial Law Scholarship.
In addition to her studies, Ms King has shown an ongoing commitment of service to the community through her role as a volunteer in the United Nations Youth Association.
The scholarship, sponsored by Blake Dawson Waldron – the firm Ciara Glennon was working at before her tragic death – is awarded annually to a UWA law student who:
Demonstrates a need for financial assistance to continue their studies;
Makes a recognisable contribution to the community in a charitable, cultural, religious or sporting area;
Demonstrates an active interest in an area outside the practise of law; and
Demonstrates a balanced, well-rounded approach to life and a genuine concern for others.
Denis Glennon said the criteria captured as closely as possible the characteristics that epitomised the life of his late daughter.
Attorney General Jim McGinty, who presented the scholarship, said: "In a very practical way Rachel has demonstrated just how, as individuals, we can all make a difference to the society we live in by participating in voluntary activities that complement other aspects of our daily lives".
