BHP Billiton has appointed Glenn Kellow as president of its stainless steel materials division, a position based in Perth, taking over from Gerard Bond.
Mr Kellow will make the move from the US where he has been the company's president and chief operating officer New Mexico Coal for the past three years.
Prior to that he was the chief financial officer of base metals for BHP, a company he has been with for the past 25 years.
Mr Kellow takes over from Mr Bond who has been in the role in an acting capacity since long-standing executive Jimmy Wilson vacated the position in September.
Mr Wilson presided over the Ravensthorpe nickel mine affair, which saw the multi-billion dollar mine shut down within a year of operations starting and the loss of some 2,000 jobs.
The mine has since been sold to First Quantum Minerals, which expect to restart the operation within 18 months.
Mr Bond will relocated to Melbourne and assume the role of project director in BHP's finance group.
Mr Kellow's appointment is effective from April 1.
