Kalgoorlie Gold Mining has struck high-grade gold at its Lighthorse prospect, part of the company's Pinjin gold project 140km northeast of Kalgoorlie, with a headline drill hit of three metres grading 9.01 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 145m. The intercept also included a higher-grade two-metre core at 12.69g/t gold and a cracking one-metre section going 19.70g/t gold, the highest individual assay result seen at the prospect to date.
The latest 19-hole, 3194-metre reverse-circulation campaign was designed to follow up on targets between one kilometre and two kilometres northwest of the company’s existing Kirgella Gift and Providence deposits, where it has already defined a 76,400-ounce inferred resource. Other notable results included a 6-metre hit at 4.86g/t gold from a shallow 54m and an 8-metre intercept grading 2.77g/t gold from 94m.
Today’s news is no flash in the pan. The recent drilling followed up on a 2025 campaign that delivered a headline-grabbing 17-metre interval assaying 4.81g/t gold from just 48m, including a stellar 8-metre section going 9.21g/t. Those numbers went on to define a continuous 1450-metre strike of near-surface gold anomalism at Lighthorse.
The company says the mineralisation styles at Lighthorse are consistent with classic Archaean orogenic gold deposits, with thick zones of mineralisation up to 27m from shallow depths. Management believes these clusters may represent the periphery of a more significant mineralised system, supporting its view that the broader Pinjin area could host a concealed goldfield.
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining managing director and chief executive officer Dr Matt Painter said:"We are pleased with the results of our RC drilling at Lighthorse, which continue to define and expand primary and secondary gold mineralisation. This program has delivered thick mineralised intercepts from shallow levels and has returned the highest-grade gold result recorded at Lighthorse to date."
Zooming out, the prospect lies within a 6km-long corridor of gold mineralisation, running from the company's T12 prospect in the north to the T15 prospect in the south - a pathway KalGold is now systematically unlocking. Its strategic address is further underlined by Ramelius Resources’ 1.4-million-ounce Rebecca gold project, now in development just 20km to the south along strike.
The project sits in what miners like to call “elephant country” within the southern reaches of the Laverton Tectonic Zone - a 250km-long geological powerhouse that has coughed up more than 30 million ounces of gold throughout its history.
The new results also come as WA gold exploration spending hits a record $1.57 billion in 2025-26, with a local gold price north of A$6,000 an ounce keeping new discoveries firmly in the spotlight.
KalGold has already proven its credentials as a low-cost gold hunter, defining more than 214,000 ounces of gold across its portfolio at an impressively lean cost of less than A$4.60 per ounce. The tally includes a 76,400-ounce inventory at its Kirgella Gift and Providence deposits at Pinjin, alongside a 138,000-ounce resource at its La Mascotte deposit, part of the company's Bulong Taurus project, 35km east of Kalgoorlie.
With results still pending from a recent 225-hole aircore drill program spanning 7,212m at the Laverton Tectonic Zone Flexure target, 3.5km southeast of Kirgella Gift and planning underway for further drilling in late September to test newly defined targets, there looks to be plenty of newsflow on the horizon.
Kalgoorlie Gold appears to be methodically piecing together the geological puzzle at Pinjin. Hitting high-grade gold is one thing; however, doing it consistently within a large, known mineralised system, in a world-class geological address and with a strong gold price at your back, is another entirely. If the company can continue to connect the dots, it might just be onto something significant.
