LOCAL technology services company Focal Systems Pty Ltd has been bought by KAZ Group Limited for an undisclosed sum.
Under the terms of the deal, KAZ has acquired all of Focal’s business and technology management solutions and support services.
While refusing to disclose the details of the transaction, KAZ Technology Services managing director Andrew Richardson said the deal would boost KAZ’s presence in WA, with KAZ’s State office absorbing all of Focal’s 22 staff. However, Mr Richardson said no formal relationship existed between KAZ and Focal prior to the deal.
“KAZ has itself been making headlines in recent times as the target of an acquisition by Telstra in a $333 million deal.
Managing director Michael Cook established Focal Systems in 1987. He will remain with KAZ in the role of business operations manager.
“Part of my role will be to drive the growth of our IBM and Microsoft solutions business,” Mr Cook said.
Focal’s Microsoft clients include Fleetwood Corporation and Great Southern Plantation, while its IBM client base includes Westfarmers Divisions.
Mr Cook said Focal was profitable at the time of acquisition and the deal was driven by “extraordinary synergies” between both companies.
