THE Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia will coordinate a national network of business associations to run a program to assist industry deal with employment issues. The group, including Business SA, Australian Business Limited and VECCI, has won a tender to deliver the federal government’s National Adviser Network Program across Australia, including both rural and regional areas. The program aims to: •increase employers’ under-standing of good management practices relating to hiring, performance management and conflict resolution; •provide employers with an understanding of fair and proper employment termination practices, leading to reduced unfair dismissal and unlawful termination claims; •provide employers with information and advice about the revised unfair dismissal and unlawful termination provisions of the Workplace Relations Act 1996; and •create information materials for employers to give their employees concerning the employees’ rights under the act. Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews said the program would provide general information through workshops and self-help information through a dedicated website. CCIWA will run an extensive advertising campaign about the services to be provided.
