Challenge Dairy was place in voluntary administrator last week claiming that attempts to secure funding had failed.
PPB were appointed as the administrator.
PwC were appointed receivers by National Australia Bank.
PwC partner Derrick Vickers said the decision to lay people off was a tough one but was made with the future of the business top of mind.
"We understand this is a difficult time for affected employees and will work closely with them and the state government to provide assistance and support."
"We will also continue to work hard to keep the business operating as a whole while we try and find a buyer," Mr Vickers said.
He said an expression of interest campaign has been launched with advertisements appearing in state and national newspapers from today.
"Challenge Australian Dairy Pty Ltd is a prime business opportunity," said Mr Vickers.
"The Boyanup plant is the only butter producing facility in Western Australia while the Capel plant is capable of pasteurising and processing milk and milk products such as cheese and whey."
