The Institute for International Research will hold an Iron Ore and Steel conference over July 29 and 30 at Rendezvous Observation City Hotel.
Over the course of the conference several topics will be discussed with presentations from a number of speakers under the headings Australian Export Opportunities and Challenges, Supply and Demand, Freight, Global Market Overview, and Capitalising on Asian Steel Demand.
Keynote speaker Boasteel vice president Xu Lejiang will present on Australian Export Opportunities and Challenges and will speak on the Chinese buyer’s perspective on Australian Iron opportunities.
Fortescue chief executive officer Andrew Forrest will follow to present on entering the Australian iron ore market.
Supply and Demand will look at the WA Government’s view and the response to their global demand for steel and will feature a presentation from Department of Industry and Resources director general Dr Jim Limerick.
WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy chief executive Tim Shanahan will examine the growth of the resources industry in WA.
Seawise director Tony Pegum will speak on effectively responding to rising freight prices.
The Global Market session will feature a presentation from Citigroup Global Markets vice president Annette Beacher, who will speak on the global iron ore economic outlook.
Capitalising on Asian Steel Demand will include presentations from Australia China Business Council Dr Desmond Williams and Antaike senior analyst Xu Aihua.
The conference will culminate in an interactive workshop session hosted by Commonwealth Bank commodity strategist David Thurtell.
