Iraqi wheat sale a good sign

THE announcement that 800,000 tonnes of wheat contracted to Iraq has been honoured over the weekend is a positive sign for future trade with the Middle Eastern market.

The Federal Government and AWB Limited should be commended for their work in bringing the contract to fruition.

While this is confirmation of an existing contract, it reaffirms AWB’s status in the market place and, specifically, the lucrative Iraqi market.

The US farm lobby has been extremely determined to re-enter the Iraqi market with slanderous campaigns against the Australian wheat marketing system.

To now have Australian wheat being shipped to Iraq is a tremendous victory for our system and our relations with our trading partners.
