Innovators gain funding

ANOTHER ten WA firms have won WA Government support to help develop new products and technologies.

A total of $485,000 will be offered to assist research and development projects ranging from a jacket to maintain optimum temperatures for telecommunications batteries to mining production simulation software.

The ten companies offered grants through the WA Innovation Support Scheme are:

• Wamtech to develop extractants to identify key soil elements for agricultural, environmental, hydrocarbon and mineral applications

• Thermal Energy Accumulator Products to develop and commercialise a jacket that will keep telecommunications batteries at optimum temperatures in outdoor conditions

• Binder Engineering which is developing a range of constant effort spring supports for the oil and gas, power generation, petrochemical and resource development industries

• Helix Technologies to develop software to assist materials handling designers design overland belt conveyor systems

• ElectroMagnetic Imaging Technology which has developed three dimensional interpretation algorithms for electromagnetic geophysical data to speed the process of identify and mapping base-metal deposits

• Surpac Software International which has developed a new software tool for production scheduling, stockpile quality control and production simulation in the mining industry

• 3-D Mapper which is researching and developing a desktop digital photogrammetry system – satellite to support high resolution satellite stereo imagery

• Fractal Graphics which is developing software applications for use in conjunction with the Haptic Workbench that will make more accurate 3D geoscientific models easier to make

• Underground Services Australia which has developed a directional drilling machine suited to Australian conditions for installing gas, power and telecommunications utilities

• Matrix Asia Pacific which is developing high-grade tooling material for the plastic thermofoaming industry.
