PERTH-BASED architecture firm, Sandover Pinder, has been contracted to design a new 240-bed general hospital in the port city of Surabaya in eastern Indonesia, for existing client Siloam Hospitals Group and Lippo Karawaci. The new hospital, which will service a population of 3 million people, will replace an existing Siloam hospital on an adjacent site. It will contain accident and emergency facilities, as well as the Siloam Fertility Clinic. The project follows the completion of the concept design for Kebon Jeruk Hospital in West Jakarta and ongoing construction at Mochtar Riady Cancer Hospital in Central Jakarta. Both hospitals are part of the Siloam Hospital Group and part of a wider plan for developing its growing network of hospitals throughout Indonesia. Sandover Pinder has also been engaged to develop a new innovative learning centre at Carmel High School in Dianella, after the project was put on hold in 2005 pending further funding. The development will replace the oldest part of the school, which comprises around a third of the campus. Construction of the new visual and performing arts building and student services building is due to begin in May.
