The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia Training Services is holding a seminar to assist businesses to avoid the pitfalls of importing. The seminar will be held on May 18 at the CCI Training Centre in East Perth.
The seminar is made up of six sessions that will help people make the most the many opportunities available through importing.
1. Introduction to importing – an overview of the Australian market from an importer’s perspective (presented by CCIWA).
2. Regulations affecting imports – including customs (tariffs, trade descriptions, prohibited imports, anti-dumping), quarantine, GST, product standards, packaging and labelling (presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers).
3. Foreign exchange, finance options and methods of payment (presented by BankWest).
4. Quarantine – an outline of Australia’s biosecurity (quarantine) laws, particularly as they relate to commercial importations, and how to comply with these laws (presented by the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service).
5. Shipping and logistics – the role of customs brokers and freight forwarders and how they can assist importers (presented by the Customs Brokers & Forwarders Council of Australia).
6. An importer’s perspective, with Global Distributors (Aust) Pty Ltd managing director Bob Rylands. Mr Rylands, an experienced seafood importer and wholesaler, will share his experience and offer some valuable advice on importing.
