Hoyts Group has announced plans to open a new cinema complex in Karrinyup and redevelop its Garden City complex, as part of shopping centre redevelopments in those areas.
The Hoyts cinema complex in Karrinyup will be the company’s first north of the CBD, and the first for the AMP Capital-owned Karrinyup Shopping Centre, which will undergo a $600 million expansion next year.
The complex will include 11 screens, including two Xtremescreens.
City of Stirling Mayor Giovanni Italiano welcomed the introduction of a cinema to Karrinyup.
“The cinemas are much-needed and welcomed by the Stirling community and I fully support the introduction of Hoyts into Karrinyup Shopping Centre,” Mr Italiano said.
“It is great to be able to give our community more choice.”
Meanwhile, Hoyts will also be redeveloping and expanding its existing cinema complex at the Garden City Booragoon shopping centre, which is undergoing an expansion of its own.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said he was pleased to see the cinemas would be improved as part of Garden City’s development.
“It will be wonderful to see the new cinemas come to life as part of our vision for a new cultural hub and main street precinct,” he said.
“With the community indicating they would like to see the current civic spaces and facilities improved, I know they will welcome this fantastic new Hoyts complex and I look forward to visiting it in the future.”
Hoyts chief executive Damian Keogh said the company was pleased to be upgrading and growing its footprint in the Perth market.
Today's Hoyts announcement comes after Charter Hall disclosed plans to establish a new cinema complex as part of its Raine Square development, marking the return of cinema to the CBD.
Charter Hall has not named the operator.
