Completion of refurbishment works at the Horseshoe bridge in Northbridge has been pushed back.
Traffic congestion around the Wellington Street train station will persist for another two months, after Transport Minister Simon O'Brien confirmed the Horseshoe Bridge re-opening had been delayed.
The heritage-listed bridge, which has been closed since November for resurfacing, was scheduled to be re-opened before the end of this month.
Mr O'Brien predicted at the launch of the tender process to sink the railway line for the Northbridge Link today the bridge would be re-opened before the end of June.
"There is a delay in getting the Horseshoe Bridge re-opened, and I understand it's the availability of a particular building material to acquire in the resurfacing," Mr O'Brien said.
"Apologies if there is a slight delay in getting the bridge re-opened again, we just want to make sure with such a valuable heritage asset we do the job right. I predict it will be open before the end of June, but I can't give an exact date."
