Highway land buy

THE state government says it now owns more than 97 per cent of land required for the 70.5 kilometre Perth-Bunbury Highway project, with the remaining 1.8km expected to be secured by mid-August, though negotiations were continuing. Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said in an announcement that the new Perth-Bunbury Highway would include construction of a dual carriageway from Safety Bay Road in Baldivis to Old Coast Road in Lake Clifton. Ms MacTiernan said the road was subject to federal government environmental approval. The private land being acquired is in an area where there has been vocal opposition to the state government’s land procurement and planning policies.
