In announcing the appointment of the long-time goldfields resident Goldfields-Esperance Minister John Bowler said that Mr Hicks' commitment to the region would ensure GEDC was able to facilitate the long term development of the Goldfields and Esperance regions.
"The region is enjoying exciting times with the buoyant commodity prices for gold and nickel and with the team of Mr Hicks and GEDC chairman Bill McKenzie at the helm, the foundation will be laid to broaden the region's economic base and strengthen the future of the Goldfields," Mr Bowler said.

Goldfields-Esperance Minister John Bowler has announced the appointment of long-time Goldfields resident Robert Hicks as the new chief executive officer of the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission.
Mr Bowler welcomed Mr Hicks, a proud Goldfields local with strong family traditions in the region, to the role.
"Mr Hicks' commitment to the region will ensure GEDC is able to facilitate the long term development of the Goldfields and Esperance regions," he said.
"Given the importance of mining to the region, Mr Hicks is also well aware of the need for balanced infrastructure and services to support workers and their families.
"The region is enjoying exciting times with the buoyant commodity prices for gold and nickel and with the team of Mr Hicks and GEDC chairman Bill McKenzie at the helm, the foundation will be laid to broaden the region's economic base and strengthen the future of the Goldfields."
Former CEO Colin Purcell and acting CEO Annaliese Walster were both praised by Mr Bowler for the excellent job they had both done to help continue the progress of the region.
GEDC chairman Bill McKenzie welcomed Mr Hicks to the role and thanked Ms Walster for acting in the role for such an extended period.
Mr McKenzie said he looked forward to working with Mr Hicks.
"Robert has a dynamic personality and his energy will help to boost the ongoing development of the region," Mr McKenzie said.
