Aged care organisation Hall & Prior has its sights on a 8,586 square metre site in Palmyra to build its $100 million independent living complex.
Lateral Planning, on behalf of Hall & Prior, recently submitted a development application for a six-storey independent living complex and residential care facility to the Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel.
The site is bound by Waddell Road, Stock Road and Canning Highway in Palmyra.
According to the application and designs by Hassell, the development would include a medical centre, restaurant, and shop.
“The residential care facility will be located in a six-storey (plus basement) building on the southern portion of the site,” it said.
“The independent living complex and ground floor tenancies is located in another six-storey building (plus basement) adjacent to Canning Highway.
“All parking and loading will occur in the basement.”
A number of buildings occupy the site, including Melville District Road Board building, the Stock Road Senior Citizens Club, and Roy Edinger Community Centre.
The application said all buildings were planned to be demolished but a plaque would be set up to commemorate the original Melville Road Board building.
Nyisztor Studio and Nextdoor, a gallery and exhibition space on the site, will leave when the site is handed over to Hall & Prior, according to the City of Melville.
“Chorus ‘Meals on Wheels’ are making their own arrangements to relocate from the premises, when vacant possession of the site is granted to Hall & Prior,” the city said on its website.
“The earliest date for vacant possession is the December 31 2023, however, this will be subject to the timing of development approval and final notice from Hall & Prior to take possession of the site.”
The city has planned for Melville Theatre Company to move from Roy Edinger Hall to the refurbished Civic Main Hall in Booragoon.
Refurbishment of the main hall has been allocated $1.1 million in the city’s budget.
