Saracen Wines will be presenting its sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon, together with a selection of dishes prepared by Gwenael Lesle. Beginning at 7pm on Tuesday September 25, the evening promises to be a great occasion.

Since taking the reins at Origins Restaurant at the Sheraton, food and beverage manager Dario Orsini has gone from strength to strength. Origins has just won a Highly Commended Award in national magazine FoodService News’ McCain Menu of the Year Award.

The owners of the popular Italian Cafe at Hillarys have opened a new cafe at Mindarie Marina. With the same menu style and format, Adam and (father) John Broadly have found another exceptional beachfront site.
The official opening of the new Mindarie Italian Cafe is this Sunday and they are nearly fully booked.
Adam says they opened the new cafe in Mindarie because the Hillarys establishment is running at capacity, and that many patrons visiting Hillarys come from further north.
“Fifty per cent of our clientele come from the Mindarie area,” he says.
“For people living up this way there really isn’t anywhere for you to go out for a nice meal.
“We suit anyone’s budget, we’re family priced and the cafe has a terrific ambience.”

Yes it’s that time of year again. The Perth Royal Show is on from Friday September 28 to Saturday October 6. The Show’s new marketing manager, Loretta Saunders, says while the message of the fun and games will still be promoted, they are looking to generate more publicity to the smaller, niche and more unique events.
“There is such a diversity and we want people to know that there’s something for everybody, from sideshow ally to special interest areas,” she says.
In a pricing restructure, the Royal Agricultural Society has dropped the price of the family pass to $41 for two adults and two children compared with $46 last year. This year for the first time prices will be reduced after 6pm in an effort to attract those leaving work.
“For those of us who work until five or six, going to the show doesn’t seem like great value,” Ms Saunders says. “This year we’ve reduced the adult ticket to $10 from the normal rate of $16, and children will be charged for $5 instead of $9.”
For the first time this year the Olive Oil Competition has been staged, which Ms Saunders says adds to the Show’s support of Western Australian producers.
WA’s Middlewood Olive Oils from Rosa Brook (near Margaret River) has won the Best Oil of the Show and the Moore River Olive Association Trophy for Best WA Oil for its WA Mission variety.
Forty entries from 27 producers were received for the Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition.
Also featuring at the Pavilion for the first time this year is seafood specialists Kailis Bros, a butcher’s shop with butchers ‘on show’, demonstrating how to cut and prepare different types of meats, while the Australian Pork Corporation, D’Orsonga, and Harvey Beef will all have displays.

What used to be a karaoke bar on Francis Street will now become a Thai restaurant with renovations currently under way for an October 29 opening.
Puksorn Dutpen will manage the Bangkok Noodle House and, cooking up Thai feasts will be her sister, Anna Diek, and Anna’s husband Trevor.
The pair has experience cooking at Siam Kitchen at the Fremantle Markets.
