Group to tackle gas

WA INDUSTRY has set up an ongoing working group to discuss and investigate the ramifications of greenhouse gas emissions trading.

Woodside business development manager and spokesman for the WA GHG Emission Trading Working Group David Dabney said the Australian Government was committed in principle, as a signatory to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, to lower Australia’s GHG emissions.

At Kyoto it was proposed companies producing less than their quota of carbon dioxide be issued with GHG Emissions credits.

If a company wanted to produce more GHG than its quota it would have to trade with other companies nationally or internationally to buy extra credits from them.
