A wave of announcements has seen 65 new boat pen licenses allocated in Fremantle, whilst the opening of a repair and maintenance facility and the allocation of $241,000 to improve two recreational boating facilities in the Pilbara has also been launched.
Licences for 65 new recreational boat pens at Fremantle Fishing Boat harbour will be allocated by public ballot in June, with registrations closing on May 29.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan invited registrations for the ballot and said the pens would help meet rapidly growing demand for larger boat pens in the metropolitan area.
"The number of large recreational vessels in WA has increased by 60 per cent over the past decade. The new pens will range in size from 15 to 22 metres and the minimum length of vessel to be catered for is 12m in overall length," Ms MacTiernan said.
The pens are expected to be available by the end of the year, with a tender due shortly.
This comes as Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan today opened Aquastack Marina, a secure facility that will repair, maintain and stack boats and trailers, as well as launch and retrieve services, to boats sized 18-33 feet
It is located near popular Perth boat ramps Woodman Point, East Fremantle and Rockingham.
Mr Logan said Aquastack Marina was a one-stop-shop for all boating enthusiasts and would help fill a storage gap in the recreational boat industry.
"This innovative facility will take all the hard work out of owning a boat so owners can enjoy more time on the water - it's like a valet service for boats," Mr Logan said.
Aquastack Marina director Luke Clayton said its service offered clients' peace of mind as their boat and trailer were stored exactly the same way each time.
"We look after repairs, services and maintenance and can even pack a picnic basket. Our ultimate package means you don't even have to lift a finger, we will organise everything and have the boat ready and waiting in the water for you to directly step onto," he said
