The future of the Busselton Jetty is now secure with the state government today confirming it will immediately offer $24 million over two years towards restoration works.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said should the funding proposal be accepted by the Busselton Shire Council, work could start during the summer.
The funding package, a Liberal election promise, consists of $14 million offered this financial year and $10 million in the following year.
Today's statement follows the cancellation of the original funding announcement, which was due to be made last week. It was understood the funding arrangement did not receive final approval from Cabinet in time.
A spokesperson for Treasurer Troy Buswell told WA Business News that today's announcement has received cabinet approval.
Funding for the jetty is not conditional on land development and allows the shire to proceed with finalising tenders and starting work, Mr Grylls said in a statement.
