The state government is expecting keen competition from developers for a pair of prime development sites in Fremantle and Scarborough released to market this week.

Lands Minister Ben Wyatt today launched a campaign to sell the historic former Fremantle Technical College building, located across the road from the Fremantle Markets.

The heritage-listed buildings sit on a plot of 2,400 square metres and represent a significant opportunity for redevelopment, Mr Wyatt said.

He said the government was seeking a proponent with a vision to reactivate and restore the heritage asset.

“This is a genuinely rare and unique opportunity to breathe new life into one of Fremantle’s most recognisable streetscapes and be part of the revitalisation of the Fremantle City Centre,” Mr Wyatt said in a statement.

“The character buildings present an array of possibilities for reuse and the location lends itself to any number of potential uses for the astute investor.”

Meanwhile in Scarborough, Mr Wyatt today called for expressions of interest to developers for a 6,442sqm beachfront plot located on Reserve Street.

Colliers International has been appointed to market the plot, which is in an area of Scarborough with an eight-level height limit, extendable to 12 storeys if the successful developer provides a significant community benefit.

Colliers International selling agent Tim Scott said the site, which is currently used as a car park, had the potential to become a local landmark.

“Given the prime position, the large land holding and the tight supply of oceanside development sites, we are expecting strong interest from local and offshore buyers keen to secure this superb site,” he said.
