UNIVERSITY research and teaching will help bring more international investment to Australia’s petroleum industry says University of WA vice chancellor Deryck Schreuder.
Professor Schreuder said the local petroleum industry had to operate at world standards of excellence.
“This is not a time when the sector can simply wait for a price turn around,” he said.
“Research and development activities that improve industry competitiveness and ad-vance project execution will demonstrate to the rest of the world that Australian petroleum developments are worthy of investment.
“The fact many petroleum companies and service providers have chosen Perth as the base for national and region-al headquarters has increased the opportunity for the WA industry to build the skills base and contribute to training and research.”
UWA runs the Centre for Oil and Gas Engineering that includes the degree of Master of Oil and Gas Engineering and the Graduate Diploma in Oil and Gas Engineering.
The centre also offers the Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering which is conferred by Curtin University of Technology.
